Hunger in Angola
Angola 2002

In 2002, Angola faced one of the most dramatic famine crises to have hit the African continent in the previous ten years. Thousands of civilians were starving and hundreds of thousands faced starvation from a man-made nutritional crisis.
Following the April 4th cease-fire, Unita soldiers were being demobilized and former war zones opened. But the Angolan government and the UN were not responding fast enough to the urgent humanitarian needs of half a million Angolans who were dying in absolute silence.
